Andras Ko

András Kő started out at OTP Bank in 2005 as a branch management consultant in the Central Transdanubia region. Thirteen years as head of department followed at the Zászlós branch in Tatabánya, where he also served for a time as acting director. In 2018 he became director of the OTP LAB Innovation Branch, and from 2023 he led the bank's innovation competence centre.

The innovation branch existed to work out how a bank branch ought to operate in the future, and then to run that model in practice. More than five hundred development projects passed through his team in five years. They built a customer service process catalogue, a performance management simulation for branch leaders and an onboarding system, along with a number of application prototypes that help run the branch network. Over the same period the branch grew its sales by twenty-five per cent in four years, and customers rated the service 4.9.

Those years left one lesson behind. Building the system is not the hard part — getting people to use it is. That is why involving people and leading the change always came first in his work, from leadership training and mentoring through to redesigning training programmes. A system is only alive when the people inside it feel it is theirs.

As an independent consultant he does the same work at a smaller scale. Twenty years taught him that companies tend to get stuck at much the same points, only in a different order. Three models grew out of that: the SEJT model™ shows where the trouble is, the REND model™ shows what to build, and Örvény shows the rhythm at which change can be sustained.
